Travelling up in my station wagon from Hobart to Peregian Beach on the Sunshine Coast was a new experience for me. Leaving Tasmania in mid August I arrived at my son’s house nine days later. Driving many kilometres on various highways and byways I watched the flora change gradually, often imperceptibly.
It was the Melaleuca dominating the landscape of the Sunshine Coast which left a strong impression in this part of the country. Looking out daily from the balcony, at the plain leading to the hinterland and Mt Cooroy, gave me ample opportunity to draw and paint this landscape.
